About Us


Ramnarain Ruia Autonomous College is one of the prestigious colleges in Mumbai established in 1937. It has not only gifted the world with talented and hardworking students but also has developed the future reliable citizens that India needs the most. With the establishment of National Service Scheme (NSS) in India in 1969, Ruia college openly dedicated itself towards the nation building. Ruia NSS focuses on different aspects of life such as environmental, health, educational, social and selfless service etc. The students have devoted their time and energy in the development of small villages such as Shanti Nagar, Wakadi, Majivali Pada etc. For the past several years the college has been organising 7 days residential camps where students learn to be independent, work hard, think and execute creative ideas on developmental processes and help building a standard life in village settlements. Also with the help of different university recognised organisations such as Chembur Welfare School, Vinay High School, Bhoiwada School Kurla, the Ruia NSS unit carries out educational programmes. Different government organisations such as The State Disaster Management, Mumbai District Aids Control Society and Mumbai University work in association with ruia NSS in order to inculcate an all-round development programmes through various activities such as Blood Donation and Awareness workshops. Ruia NSS also gives opportunities to several bright students to take part in state and national level camps (Avhan, SRD, NRD, etc.). Ruia NSS has taken steps to revoke the orthodox, superstitious and blindfolded society by performing awareness programmes, street plays, conducting health camps, establishing Ganesha idols, etc. Ruia NSS unit represents a fine blend and unity of the students of science and humanities, a pillar of selfless service and mostly a platform building India’s responsible citizens.

Benefits of Being a NSS Volunteer

A NSS volunteer who takes part in the community service programme would either be a college level or a senior secondary level student. Being an active member these student volunteers would have the exposure and experience to be the following:
