ANIMAL TESTING CENTRE
The Animal Testing Centre (ATC) of Ramnarain Ruia Autonomous College, has been established in the year 1985. The testing facility is officially licensed and approved by the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA),Government of India (Registration number: 315/PO/RE/S/2000/CPCSEA). The Animal Testing Centre is used extensively by postgraduate and researchstudents to perform their experiments on animal models like rats and mice.
The industries which have benefited from the services of the animal testing centre in recent years include, Cipla Ltd, Sun Pharma, Ajanta Pharma, Neopharma, UK, Zuventus etc. Many research students and faculty members from Ruia colleges and other institutes in and around Mumbai have benefitted from the services of ATC.
Animal testing Centre of Ramnarain Ruia College, regularly houses animals such as Albino Wistar Rats, Swiss Albino Mice and Newzealand Albino Rabbits. The studies undertaken at ATC include acute toxicity studies, sub-acute toxicity studies, efficacy studies like hepatoprotective studies, nephroprotective studies, evaluation of herbal products in the management of PCOS, anti-diabetic studies to name a few. Further, ATC in collaboration with Herbal Research Lab also conducts pharmacokinetic and bioavailability studies on animal model.
With a strong Industry Academia linkage and research culture, Animal Testing centre is an active centre for assistance to students, faculty, and industrial partners which in turn ensures a strong academia-industry association.
