- Lord Meghnad Desai Professor Emeritus Meghnad Desai Academy of Economics Meghnad Desai was born in Vadodara, Gujarat. He completed his BA in Economics from Ruia College, Matunga, which is affiliated to University of Mumbai and later MA from the University of Mumbai, He was awarded PhD in Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. He taught economics from 1965 to 2003 at the London School of Economics, where he now holds the post of Professor Emeritus. He has authored several books, including The Rediscovery of India; Politicshock: Trump, Modi, Brexit and the Prospect for Liberal Democracy; and The Raisina Model: Indian Democracy at 70. He was made Lord Desai of St Clement Danes in 1991, and was awarded the Bharatiya Pravasi Puraskar in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2008.
1991 Mr. Mangesh Soman Chief Economist JSW Steel Mr. Mangesh Soman is currently working as Chief Economist for leading steel giant JSW Steel. At the beginning of his career he got an opportunity to showcase his talent at organisations like Tata Services, Economic Times Intelligence Group and most prominently at the Aditya Birla Group. In the case of Ruia, he is still associated with it in the capacity of BoS (Board of Studies) Member in the Department of Economics.
2002 Mr. Sanyam Joshi IRS Government of India Mr. Sanyam Joshi passed out from Ruia College and then completed his masters from Indira Gandhi Institute of Development and Research, Mumbai in 2005. In 2009, he cleared UPSC Civil Services Examination to become an Indian Revenue Services (IRS) Officer. At present he is placed as Diplomat in the High Commission of India at Singapore.
2005 Dr. Chinmay Tumbe Assistant Professor IIM, Ahmedabad Chinmay Tumbe loves to laugh and learn. He is passionate about migration, cities, firms and history, and is currently Associate Professor in the Economics Area at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. An alumnus of the London School of Economics and Political Science, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore; Ruia College, Mumbai; and Rishi Valley School, Madanapalle; he has been a faculty member at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Hyderabad. He was a 2013 Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute, Florence, and the 2018 Alfred D. Chandler Jr. International Visiting Scholar in Business History at Harvard Business School, Boston. His first book, 'India Moving: A History of Migration', was published in 2018 and second book 'The Age of Pandemics, 1817-1920: How they shaped India and the World', was published in 2020. He was a member of the The Lancet Covid-19 India Taskforce in 2020-22 and the Working Group on Migration of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation in 2016-17. He has published widely in leading journals and newspapers and helped set up the IIMA Archives.
2016 Mr. Rohan Kadam IAS Government of India Mr. Rohan Kadam graduated from Ruia College, Matunga, Mumbai in 2016 and completed his MA in Economics at Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune. In 2021, he secured AIR 295 in UPSC Civil Services Examination to become an IAS Officer. At present he is placed as Assistant Controller of Defence Accounts.
