D. D. Kosambi Lecture series

The ‘Prof. D.D. Kosambi Memorial Lecture’ is hosted annually by the Department of History to introduce current historical debates and research to students through distinguished scholars from different fields of history. This lecture Series was started by the History Department in the year 2008 to mark the birth centenary year of Prof. D.D. Kosambi and to honour his contribution to the discipline of History. In the past, we have had the honour of hosting distinguished scholars as Romila Thapar, D. N. Jha, Umesh Bagade, Gopal Guru, Aditya Mukherjee, Tirthankar Roy, among others, to deliver the Kosambi Lecture. Scholars were from History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, literature and spoke on the varied subjects and students benefitted from these cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary topics and their research. In 2023, the D. D. Kosambi lecture hosted Dr. Priyadarshini Karve, Convener, Indian Network from Ethics and Climate Change (INECC) to speak on the topic “History of Climate Change shapes the future of Humanity”. The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Louiza Rodrigues, who has long served as the Head of the History Department in Ruia College, and is a renowned Environmental historian, retired in May 2023.

Research Methodology workshop

A research Methodology workshop was successfully conducted by the Research Committee with the IQAC and the Department of History from 24th November 2021 to 1st December 2021. The online workshop was facilitated by subject experts, historians and academics on various aspects of research methodology like identifying research problem, data collection, thesis writing, oral history approaches, etc. The workshop was aimed at introducing the students to research writing and ethical research techniques.

One-Day Workshop on Archival Management

The Department of History had conducted a One-Day workshop on Archival Management on 24th October 2019. The workshop was divided into two sessions and industry experts from the field like Ms. Vrunda Pathare, Ms. Amruta Marathe and Ms. Shweta Jadhav from the Godrej Archives, Mumbai, were invited. The industry experts explained the process of building an archive, the systems, procedures and rules involved in archive management to the students. Further, students were also introduced to concepts of preservation of rare books, documents and artifacts.
