Workshop: 2nd January 2020- Department of English jointly with History Department conducted a workshop on "Research Methodology and Research Writing". It was an honour to have Dr. Saroja Ganpathy, an imminent faculty from Vellore Institute of Technology. A fun and interactive session helped students understand what research meant to be and what intricacies it involves. She acquainted them with various key terms such as research area, research problem, research tools, research methodologies etc. In short, it was a great learning experience for everyone.

Workshop: A theatre workshop titled ‘Glimpses: Theatrical performance’ was organized on 23rd November 2019. Students (12-17 years old) from Aum Yash Kendra, a premier speech and drama institute in Prabhadevi, were invited to perform excerpts from various plays which are part of the English Literature curriculum. Students of FYBA, SYBA, and TYBA- primarily those with English as an optional subject- attended the performance.

Webinar Series: The department hosted a series of webinars titled ‘Interface: a Webinar Series on Literature and Beyond’ respectively on 16th, 18th, 20th and 22nd May of 2020. The purpose of the series was to acquaint students with various interdisciplinary tenets of literary studies and invite deliberations for the same. The series had topics like Mutualism between cinema and literature, Living in Translation: an introduction to Translation Studies, Being in Doubt: Language and Pandemic, and The Art of Pages: Discussion on History of the Book

   

Student Seminar: Under the Interdisciplinary Studies Forum the students of the Department hosted a plenary session on the “Idea of Romance in Media”. The event was held on 9th August 2020. A TY student Ms Disha Thacker was the speaker for this student seminar.

Student Seminar:In continuation of the open discussions under the Interdisciplinary Studies Forum of the department, students organised a deliberation on the sociopolitical understanding of love in both literature and media on 19th September 2020. The title of the session was “Love Actually: is it a construct?”. Ms Disha Shanbag (a final year student) was the speaker for this event.

Webinar: The department hosted a Webinar titled 'The idea of Love in Adivasi Songs and Stories' on 17th October 2020. The guest speaker for the webinar was Ms Prachi Dublay (Visiting Faculty, Ahmadabad University, Gujarat). It was a combination of lecture demonstration whereby the artist shared stories from Adivasi communities residing in central India and how gender equations work in the idea of love there.

Guest Lecture-Webinar: On 13th Feb 2021, the department organized a guest lecture by Dr Mrinmoy Pramanick (Assistant Profesor, Department of Comparative Indian Language and Literature, University of Calcutta). The topic of the lecture was 'Tagore on Tanslaition: An Indian Way of Thinking' . It elaborated on Tagore’s philosophy of translation and how it draws a pathway for the Indian theory of translation.

Panel Discussion: As part of the departmental festival, the department hosted a Panel Discussion on 26th Feb 2021. The topic of the discussion was Digital Humanities: Opportunities, Visibility and Barriers. The three panellists for the programme were Dr.Padmini Ray of Design Beku, Miss Nithila Kanagasabai from TISS,Mumbai and Miss Alinda Gupta from Times of India. The session was moderated by Mr. VIkki Gayakavad.

   

Webinar: On 27th February 2021, department organized A webinar/seminar titled In Medias-Res on Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Media by Mr Amritansh Nigam (Assistant Professor, MET, Mumbai). It was part of the annual intercollegiate cultural programme called Samanvay.

Workshop: The department organized an online workshop for Undergraduate students on research methodology on 25th July 2021. It was titled A Very Short Workshop on Writing and Citing. It was conducted by one of the faculty members of the department Mr Vikki Gayakavad.

Guest Lecture: The department hosted a guest lecture titled The Interplay and Pluralism of Postmodern Theories: A look at Structuralism, Poststructuralism & Deconstruction on 27th November 2021. The guest speaker for the lecture was Dr Deepna Rao (Assistant Professor, Department of English, Jai Hind College, Mumbai). The lecture consisted of an overview of post modern theories and their importance in understanding literature.

Career Counselling & Alumni Interaction: Like every year, the department organized a career counselling session titled “What Could be?” for the outgoing batch of TYBA on 25th April 2022. The intention was to guide students regarding various opportunities they have after graduation. One of the alumnae of the department Ms. Amrita Shenoy (Assistant Professor, Department of English, St Xavier’s College, Mumbai) was the guest speaker for this session. She guided students about education in foreign universities and scholarships.

Interactive session: A guest interaction cum lecture titled Anecdotes of/from News was hosted by the department on 12th July 2022. The speaker for this session was Mr. Pratik Mukane (Journalist - The Times of India). It was arranged for the Second Year Journalism students of the department. The students were introduced to various career opportunities and intricacies of media organizations.

   

Workshop: The department hosted its Annual Workshop titled A Very Short Workshop on Writing and Citing for the undergraduate students. The workshop intended to familiarize students with standards format and methods of research writing It was conducted by one of the faculty members of the department Dr Vikki Gayakavad on 21st November 2022.

Alumni Interaction:Under the initiative of alumni interaction, the department hosted its own alumna Ms Sakshi Shelvale (Subtitle Writer and Film Archiving Enthusiast) on 21st January 2023 who delivered a talk on Translating the screen: Nuances of Subtitle Writing. She enlightened the students about various opportunities in content writing and nuances of writing for the visual media.

The workshop intended to familiarize students with standards format and methods of research writing It was conducted by one of the faculty members of the department Dr Vikki Gayakavad.

   

Guest Lecture/Interaction: During the annual festival, the department organized a guest interaction with an author titled Mach-mach on 12th January 2024. The speaker for this session was a former medical practitioner and poet Ms Anupama Patil who shared her views on culture, gender and journey of a poet. The discussion was moderated by one of the TY students Ms Mrunal Rajadhyanksa. It was followed by an interesting Q & A session.

Lecture Demonstration: As part of the annual festival, the department hosted Mr Nitish Purohit (a renowned Sarod Artist) on 12th January 2024 in an interactive session titled Sonder. Mr Nitish shared his music and views with the audience on Indian Culture and its multifaceted nature.
