Ruia Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Committee

Ramnarain Ruia Autonomous College became a signatory to the UN SDG Accord on 30th June, 2020. Ruia College has always been in the forefront to wholeheartedly contribute towards social cause, and it shoulders the responsibility to help in achieving sustainable future in terms of life sustaining as well as human resources. Soon a dedicated Ruia Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Committee was established in 2021, having following constitution;

During the year 2020-21, the first year after signing the UN Accord, the College brought about awareness about SDG among students and faculty. Despite being restricted to online mode because of the Covid pandemic, the College successfully worked on some of the SDG goals. The activities included, online survey projects, online sessions and workshops. Some of those projects were presented as posters at Conferences and Research Conventions, wherein students bagged prizes. Few Departments formally added SDG in their curriculum, thus increasing its reach out to students. The College submitted its annual report to the UN in February 2021. UN Report 2020-21 and detailed College SDG Report 2020-21 


Ruia SDG Pledge

Ruia SDG Committee created Ruia SDG Pledge for the College and all its stakeholders. It reads;

 ‘I am proud that I am a part of the richly diverse ecosystem of Planet Earth. I understand that a healthy environment is important for survival of mankind and all other living organisms present in it.

I care to protect, value, and nurture Mother Earth. I commit to work towards conservation of natural resources and assure its availability for future. I seek to achieve human development in a sustainable manner.

Together with my fellow citizens, I pledge to spread awareness and work towards achieving the targets set under “Sustainable Development Goals” outlined by the United Nations’.

History SDG

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. visit: 


Message from Head of Department

It is a proud moment for all Ruiaites to be a signatory to UN SDG Accord and to be able to contribute towards achieving its goals and targets. Ruia College has made a 5 years plan (2021- 2026) for working towards few selected goals of Waste Management- Goal 11, 12, Coastal Management- Goal 14, Water Management-Goal 6, Education and Skilling- Goal 4 and Tree Plantation-Goal 15, to be achieved by wholehearted and enthusiastic participation of students, Faculty and other stakeholders.
