During the year 2020-21, the first year after signing the UN Accord, the College brought about awareness about SDG among students and faculty. Despite being restricted to online mode because of the Covid pandemic, the College successfully worked on some of the SDG goals. The activities included, online survey projects, online sessions and workshops. Some of those projects were presented as posters at Conferences and Research Conventions, wherein students bagged prizes. Few Departments formally added SDG in their curriculum, thus increasing its reach out to students. The College submitted its annual report to the UN in February 2021. Ruia SDG Pledge
Ruia SDG Committee created Ruia SDG Pledge for the College and all its stakeholders. It reads;
‘I am proud that I am a part of the richly diverse ecosystem of Planet Earth. I understand that a healthy environment is important for survival of mankind and all other living organisms present in it.
I care to protect, value, and nurture Mother Earth. I commit to work towards conservation of natural resources and assure its availability for future. I seek to achieve human development in a sustainable manner.
Together with my fellow citizens, I pledge to spread awareness and work towards achieving the targets set under “Sustainable Development Goals” outlined by the United Nations’.
----Ruia SDG Committee-2021
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. visit: https://sdgs.un.org/goals
