PHARMA ANALYTICAL SCIENCES

About Us

The Government of India through its Deen Dayal Upadhyay Centres for Knowledge Acquisition and Upgradation of Skilled Human Abilities and Livelihood, has established ‘KAUSHAL’ Centres with specific focus on vocational education. These KAUSHAL centres have been established to address the significant skill-gap that exists between the 'demands' of the industry and the 'supply' by the educational institutions.

In an effort to provide affordable flexible education system relevant to individuals as well as to the needs of the society as a whole, Government of India has launched the National Skills Qualification Framework. In view of this, UGC has implemented the scheme of B.Voc. degree programme to expand the scope of vocational education and also to provide vertical mobility to the students. S.P. Mandali's Ramnarain Ruia Autonomous College has been established B.Voc course in Pharma Analytical Sciences, under granted permission by UGC in August 2015.

The programmes are being conducted in collaboration with several industry partners who would be actively involved in identifying relevant training programmes, designing curriculum and imparting training to trainers and students. The courses will be conducted in modular structure with higher emphasis on hands on training and internship / apprenticeship in relevant industries.

The industry partners along with the respective Sector Skill Councils recognized by National Skill Development Council will be involved in the management, certification and evaluation of the training programme. The main emphasis would be to develop employable skills amongst the students with guaranteed placement in the Industry and self employment as entrepreneurs.

What Do We Offer in Our Skill Based Course?

Best Practices

Students were involved in various industrial projects that were being conducted at the Dept. of Pharma Analytical Sciences. These projects were sponsored industrial projects and the T.Y. B. Voc students were assigned various roles in QA, QC, sample processing and routine documentation. The students actively interacted with industry observers and were subjected to audits and evaluation by the industry coordinators of projects. S.Y. B. Voc students were assigned independent roles while F.Y. B. Voc students were involved as observers to understand the nuances of the projects and practice of GLP and GCP.

Special Evaluation Methodology (SSBEE): One of the major aspects of successful implementation of a skill based program is to have an effective evaluation of the skills acquired by the students. In an instrumentation intensive course like the B. Voc. in Pharma Analytical Sciences, evaluation of students’ skills in handling instruments and sample preparation becomes very important. With several high end instruments being taught in the program, it was not possible to have multiple sets of instruments to cater to a conventional method of evaluating practical skills. To overcome this and to ensure more focused evaluation of the skills a novel technique of “Sequential Station Based Evaluation of Experiments” (SSBEE) was implemented.

Good Laboratory Practices: Emphasis has been given on GLP for handling the various laboratory instruments. The students were exposed to the GLP such as maintaining documentation, log books and records, CAPA, OOS and IQ, OQ and PQ of analytical instruments.

Message from Head of Department

Pharmaceutical industry is highly regulated and therefore working in a pharmaceutical industry needs special training to adhere to the regulatory norms. Bachelor of Vocation in Pharma Analytical Sciences trains the students in industry working with adequate hands on experience in sophisticated analytical instruments. The program covers various techniques like Spectrometry, Chromatography, Pharmacopeial testing and analysis with use of instruments like UV and IR spectrophotometers, HPLC, in-vitro dissolution etc. The students are trained in GLP, GCP and good documentation practices with real life situations making them industry ready at the end of the course for all industries using instrumental analysis.
