Institution Innovation Council

Introduction


Ministry of education, Govt. of India has founded an “Innovation Cell” to encourage the culture of innovation in higher education institutes across India. As a part of this initiative, Ramnarain Ruia Autonomous College has established its own Institution Innovation Council (IIC). IIC aims to provide a conducive environment on campus for inculcating entrepreneurial skills and enterprising mind-set amongst students. IIC organizes various programs to sensitize students with different aspects of entrepreneurship such as ideation, innovation, problem-solving, financing, and leadership. In the view of college students pursuing conventional courses in Arts and Science, inception of the cell is a pioneering step for the institution’s pursuit of excellence in teaching and training.

Activities Organized

With the aim of promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, IIC conducts various activities such as seminars, workshops and competitions. One of the remarkable achievements of the council’s incubation activities include launching of an online Sanskrit education website called "sanskriteducationforum.com by Ms. Radhika Sathe (T.Y.B.A. Philosophy student) who won the “Big Idea contest” and was mentored by the members of IIC. To formalise entrepreneurial training, IIC offers a certificate course on “Innovation and Entrepreneurship”. With the aim of motivating students to pursue entrepreneurial careers, IIC organised various sessions by successful entrepreneurs which included “Taking your science from Bead to Benchside” by Ms. Aanchal Verma and Ms. Vanshika Srivastava (SIIC IIT Kanpur), Branding of Kolhapuri by Mr Bhushan Kamble (Founder and CEO of Vhaan.com), and “Early-Stage Entrepreneurship” by Mr. Deep Mody (Human Resource Management Professional). Considering the ever-increasing importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), IIC has supported department of Bioanalytical Sciences in conducting sessions on “Guarding your ideas: an introduction to IPR”. by Adv. Neha Bhatt (Assistant Professor, Adv Balasaheb Apte College of Law) and “IPR for Pharmaceutical Industry” by Dr. Milind Joshi (Professor of Practise, Ramnarain Ruia Autonomous College). To enhance the entrepreneurial skills in students, IIC conducted an activity-based workshop on “Entrepreneurship skill, Attitude and behaviour development” in collaboration with department of psychology.
