Ramnarain Ruia College of Arts & Science was the first college in Mumbai established by the private management as the Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali, Pune in June 1937. It is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and offers courses at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels including Ph.D.
Today, Ramnarain Ruia College enjoys the reputation of being one of the finest institutions of higher learning in the country. Its outstanding performance in the field of curricular and co-curricular activities has considerably enhanced its prestige and brought it substantial financial assistance from the University Grants Commission, the DST, DBT and many other equally reputed bodies.

Ruia College’s vision is to emerge as a center of higher learning and innovative research to meet the challenges of a global society and to mainstream the practices that facilitate intellectual, emotional, physical and cultural growth of students.
Ramnarain Ruia College has a strong Research culture with industry collaborations. Ruia College has 12 Science and 12 Arts departments with total student strength of around 3000. There are 27 recognised Research Guides with over 600 publications in peer reviewed journals in various branches of Science. Ruia College has established Advanced Insrtumentation Centre housing instruments such as HPLC, FPLC, GC, GCMS, DSC, AAS, and FTIR, Herbal Research Laboratory, Animal House and IATRIS (Institute for Advanced Training & Research in Interdisciplinary Sciences). These facilities are open to all research scholars/researchers from University of Mumbai and neighboring areas.
Some of the UG students are also involved in various research projects carried out in college. Interactive sessions are organized between undergraduate students with PG and research students to inculcate the interest in basic sciences and applied branches.
The College offers its students good infrastructural facilities along with competent and dedicated faculty who strive for all round development of every student. The college has always promoted the use of technology which is evident with the fact that it houses more than 300 computers, all classrooms having Built-in Audio- Visual systems and all classrooms are also connected to internet that can be used during lectures. Each department has desktops, laptop and access to internet facility. The college also has Satellite Connectivity and a Reading Hall having a separate IT Zone called E-Learning Centre. It also has an excellent library facility which caters to in-house students, researchers, faculty and the local residents.
